Stand Strong: Voice, Boundaries, and Self-Defense
About this Event

This interactive Empowerment Self-Defense workshop with Jess from Arise Self-Defense blends movement, mindset, and voice to help participants build confidence, set boundaries, and respond to conflict with clarity, not fear.


Through guided activities and partner practice, participants will learn how to:

  • Use posture and voice to assert boundaries and de-escalate
  • Recognize early warning signs and respond before situations escalate
  • Practice simple, effective physical techniques. —noParticipants leave feeling more grounded in their bodies, clearer in their voice, and better equipped to navigate boundary-testing situations, whether it's at work, in public, or in everyday life. including wrist releases and space-creating movements

The session includes a light warm-up, group discussion, skill-building drills, and space for reflection. Participants leave feeling more grounded in their bodies, clearer in their voice, and better equipped to navigate boundary-testing situations, whether it's at work, in public, or in everyday life.
This workshop is beginner-friendly and adaptable to all abilities—no prior experience needed.

Refreshments and light snacks included.

Facilitator Bio:

Jess Gordon is the founder of Arise Self-Defense, a Vancouver-based organization blending empowerment, movement, and self-defense education. A certified Empowerment Self-Defense instructor, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Women Empowered instructor, and BC-certified teacher, Jess brings over 15 years of experience in education, child and youth work, and martial arts.
