Step into Empowered Defense, a dynamic, 3-hour self-protection workshop crafted to instill confidence, assertiveness, and practical safety skills.
This class draws on a lifetime of expertise in personal safety. You’ll practice principles to stay centered and grounded, access your true power, and learn how to respond effectively to real-life scenarios.
Focus Areas:
- Principles for staying centered and grounded
- Accessing your true power
- Techniques to escape wrist grabs and front chokes
- Strikes for counterattacks
- Practical, real-world scenarios
This hands-on workshop will cover important principles and movements from Aikido, as well as the techniques, strikes, and philosophy of Krav Maga. Using striking pads for punches and kicks, participants will engage actively in a supportive, focused environment. A whiteboard will be used to help illustrate key concepts, creating an immersive learning experience.
This isn’t just “self-defense”—it’s self-protection, an empowering, assertive approach that embraces the proactive, dynamic nature of keeping yourself and others safe.

We are initally inviting only women to participate in this workshop. If there is contiued mixed gender interest, we will consider opening it up to all genders.
Taught by our local community member and respected law enforcement officer - Roderick O'Connor. He brings over 40 years of training in Aikido, 15 years in Krav Maga, and 25 years in law enforcement—including current work with the Aspen Police Department.
