Local archivist & filmmaker Emmanuel George shares the untold Black stories of Broward County at AAHF 2026.
About this Event

We, Too, Sing America: 250 Years of Black Life & Culture — that is the theme of the 2026 Africana Arts & Humanities Festival, and few voices embody that theme more powerfully than Emmanuel George. A Dominican-American archivist, filmmaker, and arts organizer born and raised right here in Hollywood, Florida, Emmanuel has spent his career doing what his father instilled in him from childhood: seeking out the overlooked narratives of Black life and making sure they are never lost.

In this adult author session, Emmanuel presents Broward Chronicles: A Retrospective, Volume 1 — a rich, community-driven collection of stories, people, places, and events across South, Central, and Northern Broward County, paired with contemporary photography capturing Broward's living culture and landmarks by David Paulo. Equal parts history book and love letter to this community, Broward Chronicles is a testament to what it means to sing America from right where you stand.

Emmanuel will discuss his journey from student activist to filmmaker to the youngest person in Broward County to hold his own special collections archive at AARLCC — the Emmanuel George Collection — as well as his ongoing work with the Black Orchid Foundation, preserving the stories of historically Black high schools across the South.
