About this Event
Join us for a hands-on sewing circle with artist Lauryn Smith, where we'll create garments honoring the contributions of oceanographers Easter Ellen Cupp, June Pattullo, and Anita Smith Hall. In this workshop, participants will use patterns designed by Lauryn Smith specifically for these pioneering women, addressing their absence in the history of oceanography. This event is part of the exhibition, currently on display in the Exhibition Gallery at Geisel Library.
No prior sewing experience is required. Material and tools will be provided. If you have a sewing kit, feel free to bring it along!
Registration is required. Space is limited.
This project is supported by the Getty Foundation’s region-wide PST ART: Art and Science Collide initiative and the Fall 2024 Embodied Pacific platform of programming at UC San Diego.
