About this Event
Explore the memorial art and architecture of Elmwood Cemetery, the oldest still-operating cemetery in Detroit and a magnificent collection of Gothic revival architecture and memorial art from the 1840s to the present day. This tour will highlight works by Marshall Fredericks, Rudolph Evans and Randolph Rogers and introduce you to some of the many notable artists and architects buried here, from Gothic masters Albert Jordan and Gordon Lloyd to modern legends like Rolf Armstrong, Nathan Johnson and Gilda Snowden.
This is a walking tour! It will last about two hours and will be held in most kinds of weather. Please check the forecast and come prepared! Most walking is on paved roads, but we will occasionally venture into the grass to get a closer look at some monuments.
Your expert Elmwood guide is Laurie Gonyea. It's free to join, but space is limited, so please sign up!
