Musical Style: JazzEirik Haugbro has performed with many of the leading artists of our time, from Carmen Bradford, Pedro Martins, Genevive Artadi, Michael Mayo, John Fedchock and Ali Jackson. He is commended for his wide beat, and his dedication the art of the piano trio, drawing inspiration from notable trios led by Ray Brown, Oscar Peterson, Ahmad Jamal, Bill Evans, Bill Charlap, Jeff Hamilton, and Monty Alexander.
The Eirik Haugbro Trio, with pianist Gavin Allen-Dunn and drummer Brian Claxton spotlights three of Colorado’s most talented musicians, coming together to pay homage to trios before them while furthering the development and tradition.
Born in Portland Oregon, Eirik Haugbro began perusing music at the age of 6, playing the guitar. Eirik Haugbro grew a love for jazz and classical music from a very young age, playing gigs around the Portland area and playing with the Portland Youth Philharmonic. While in Washington, Eirik Haugbro was the Principal Bassist for the Bellingham Symphony Orchestra, and substitute bassist for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Eirik Haugbro studied the double bass at Western Washington University and received his master’s in jazz studies from the University of Northern Colorado. Last winter, Haugbro joined the Compass Jazz Orchestra with Carmen Bradford, headlining the first night at the Jazz Educators Network conference, alongside Bijon Watson and Gavin Allen-Dunn.
Brian Claxton is one of Denver’s most in-demand drummers. Claxton has shared the stage with Monty Alexander, Randy Brecker, Steve Kovalcheck, and many other leading players in Jazz. Claxton is currently a member of the band The Burroughs.
Gavin Allen-Dunn is one of Colorado’s finest young musicians. Dunn has accompanied such musicians as Jason Marsalis, Carmen Bradford, Genevive Artardi, and many others.
