Course Overview
To start the workshop, we’ll take time to introduce ourselves and develop a list of common goals. Then each student will take a turn defining what success looks like for him or her.
Topics covered in this course
Reexamine the fundamentals of communication
In this class session, you’ll get to construct the linguistic identity you’ll need to write college-level papers on any topic.
Identify, interact with other, and develop their own communication styles
This session will allow everyone to get some practicing in interpersonal skills and excellence in relating with many different personalities.
Identify and overcome different barriers of social interaction
In this session, participants will learn to recognise communication barriers, and to design responses to overcome them. Drawing on sturdy research from relevant areas, this workshop will design real-world solutions.
Become sensitive to the demands of context
In this session, we can make sure that everyone is as well-informed and skilled as possible about how to hear statements in their proper context.
Employ strategies and methods to streamline communication
In this session participants will be shown how to spot naunces of work language used by others, and develop – or adapt already existing – workplace linguistics; participants might also consider the benefits (as well as any risks) involved in introducing such a phenomenon into an environment they’re unfamiliar with.
Workshop Wrap-Up
When they complete the course, they’ll be able to generate their first few drafts of a life plan, decide which to decide to pursue, and know how to get started. And they’ll have a sense of which other questions they’d like to answer.
