Augustana School of Music warmly invites the public to attend a special concert on April 16, 2026 at 3PM in Hamre Recital Hall. Admission is free.“Edvard Grieg’s Piano Quintet” Concert featuring members from the highly accomplished Dakota String Quartet and the Rawlins Piano Trio as they perform with internationally acclaimed Norwegian pianist, Oda Voltersvik.
Doosook Kim, 1st violin
Magda Modzelewska, 2nd violin
Yi-Chun Lin, viola
Sonja Kraus, violincello
Oda Voltersvik, piano
Featured work will be the seldom-performed Edvard Grieg Piano Quintet in B flat Major, EG118. Michael Finnissy (b. 1946) completed the work in 2012, 120 years after Grieg laid down his pencil after 250 bars. From Finissy's pen we hear a development section consisting of a Scherzo: a Halling dance with imitation of music for Hardanger fiddle followed by a slow, more introverted section.
In the final section, built on Grieg's own material, themes previously presented by the strings appear in the piano part and vice versa. Voltersvik will open the concert with a pair of Peasant Dances from Op.72 and a Folk Song from Op.66 by Edvard Grieg, resonating with the Halling dance section of the Piano Quintet.
*This program is funded in part by Augustana University’s Mellon Fund Committee.
