Join us with crime author James Oswald and author, reviewer and all round book promoter Sarah Broadley for our November meeting
About this Event

This month's guests come from very different ends of the writing spectrum - crime writing and children's books - as we will be welcoming James Oswald to talk about his route into publishing and how he swapped genres along the way, and Sarah Broadley who will tell us how writers can work with chairs at events and book launches to bring out the best in their books.

James Oswald is the author of twelve novels in the Edinburgh-based Inspector McLean series, which began with the surprise self-published bestseller Natural Causes. The most recent, What Will Burn, was published in February 2021, with All That Lives coming in 2022. He is also author of the Constance Fairchild books, No Time To Cry, Nothing To Hide and the soon to be released Nowhere To Run. As J D Oswald he has written the five book fantasy epic, The Ballad of Sir Benfro, published by Penguin. In his spare time, James runs a 350 acre livestock farm in Fife, where he raises pedigree Highland cattle.

Sarah lives in Edinburgh and writes for children of all ages. She is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI) and the Society of Authors (SOA). She regularly reviews children's books for on-line resource ‘My Book Corner’ and is a trustee on the board of Cymera: Scotland’s Festival of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Writing. Sarah was selected to read her work as part of Story Shop at the Edinburgh International Book Festival in 2016 and in 2018 was a finalist in 'The Hook', a Dragon's Den-type agents pitching event that's part of the SCBWI British Isles conference. She has chaired many events for Cymera, the Edinburgh International Book Festival and Toronto Festival of Authors. Sarah has been known to win invisible prizes for her outstanding procrastination skills and is thankful for her writing groups who help her focus and ignore all the shiny things that catch her eye. Sarah is convinced she was a magpie in a former life.

As usual, we'll be meeting at the brilliant Rose Theatre Cafe, where you'll have time to mingle and network with other writers, grab a drink or enjoy something from the cafe's delicious menu.
