Description:
Edelweiss is an exhibition by sculptor Ava Teetsel, featuring handmade paper sculptures and installations inspired by architecture, emotional landscapes, and the limits of language.
Teetsel’s work explores the tension between structure and openness—between what is built and what is imagined. Drawing from architectural forms across New York City and her own conceptual, emotional architectures, she creates delicate yet powerful paper forms that reflect on love, relationships, and awe.
Each piece is made from handmade pulp, shaped through touch, water, and chance. By surrendering control to the material, Teetsel embraces vulnerability and unpredictability, allowing the process itself to become part of the meaning. Water—an enduring influence from her upbringing near the California coast—plays a central role in shaping each work.
Named after the Edelweiss flower, a recurring motif in the exhibition, the show invites viewers into quiet, tactile spaces where material becomes language.
