About this Event
Holographic Studios is the only gallery, laboratory and education center of all things Holography in New York City and the oldest in the world.
We operate on the intersection of science and art and represent the preservation and the innovation of this incredible medium.
About the Artist:
Liza Read is a Norfolk, England based artist exploring the intersection of art, science and culture. While completing her BFA Degree at the San Francisco Art Institute in the late 70’s she moonlighted at Holografix Studios, learning to make analogue holograms from art pioneer Fred Unterseher.
In 2015 she started working again in the UK with the talented Iñaki Beguiristain, pushing the colour boundaries of Denisyuk holography. She went on to combine holograms with diverse materials to create engaging artworks that spark dialogue about the interconnectedness of nature and human affairs.
Read’s artworks and collaborations with researchers have been widely shown with Cambridge University’s Science, Chemistry, Computing and Anthropology departments, the Institute of Engineering and Technology, Wellcome MRC Stem Cell Institute, The MS Society and e-Luminate Festivals. 2017 culminated in a solo exhibition at Gallery 286, London.
About the Exhibition:
“I embed glass plate holograms into mixed media to create interactive pieces that provoke dialogue. In my latest series, Echoes in Light, I explore the tensions between progress, nature, and our emotional human response. My work invites reflection on our contradictions and the responsibilities that come with choice.” -Liza Read
