Join the Coalition for an important conversation about the intersection of domestic violence and Alzheimer's. Guest Speaker Delores Hurst Executive Director of the Alzheimer's Association- Louisiana Chapter will breakdown this important issues and offer resources.
Alzheimer's and domestic violence are interconnected with individuals experiencing dementia being both potential victims and perpetrators of abuse
. Victims of long-standing domestic violence may face increased vulnerability to abuse after a dementia diagnosis while dementia can trigger aggressive behaviors in perpetrators leading to new cycles of abuse or the resurgence of old patterns. The stress of caregiving for someone with dementia is also a significant risk factor for caregiver-initiated abuse.
