A coffee chat discussion about bell hooks’ essay Eating the Other and Simone De Beavoir's Second SexAbout this Event
Join us for a coffee chat discussion of bell hooks’ essay Eating the Other: Desire and Resistance, examining how women of colour’s bodies and sensuality are fetishized and commodified within systems of power. We will also connect this to Simone de Beauvoir’s concept of “the Other” in The Second Sex to explore how ideas of desire, difference, and identity are shaped by inequality.
This event is open to girls aged 12-21 interested in social justice, feminism, networking, and making new friends! No former knowledge is needed. We will provide you with all reading materials and it will be a casual, and open conversation.
