Tucked away in the outer reaches of East London, Rainham Hall is one of the National Trust's most charming hidden gems: a perfectly preserved Grade II* listed Georgian merchant's house built in 1729 for Captain John Harle. This Easter, the hall's beautiful community garden is buzzing with activity — literally — as the annual Easter trail takes on a bee-themed adventure.

The Easter Egg Trail at Rainham Hall runs from 1–6 April 2026, 11am to 4pm daily. The theme this year is bees — and the trail is packed with bee-inspired activities designed to get families moving and exploring the garden: try your hand at honey hoopla, take on the bee tag challenge, and wind through the community garden discovering the wonders of nature along the way. Complete the adventure and collect your Easter treat at the finish.

The bee theme ties into one of Rainham Hall's newest features: Honey Bee Hall, where visitors can explore brand-new hives, find out about a day in the life of a bee colony, and even see a demonstration hive up close. It's educational without being earnest — and kids who are fascinated by insects will absolutely love it.

Rainham Hall has been owned by the National Trust since 1949 and is one of the finest early 18th-century merchant's houses in the country. The garden is a community space that has been cultivated into a lovely mix of wildlife-friendly planting, heritage varieties, and seasonal flowers. Spring is one of the best times to visit — the garden is in full bloom and the surrounding area, including the RSPB Rainham Marshes nature reserve just down the road, makes for a brilliant full day out in a rarely-visited corner of London.

Entry to the garden is free. The Easter trail costs £3.50 per participant (card payment only). No booking required for the trail — just turn up. If you want to tour the Hall itself, book that separately as it has limited open days.
