Join Certified California Naturalist John Lynch on his wondrous wildflower walks. We'll celebrate Earth Day on 4/19 on Vista Trail via Lower Bald Mtn (from the White Barn) and returning on Meadow Trail.Meet at the White Barn. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 for youth (12-17 year olds; must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian), students, Sugarloaf members, Sugarloaf or RFO volunteers, and free for children ages 7-12. Not recommended for children under 7. Wear layers, appropriate footwear for rocky and/or slippery trails, bring at least a quart of water and if desired, a snack. Heavy rain cancels and will be announced early on the day of the hike. Parking fees apply.
Ease of access: The White Barn parking lot has one van-designated accessible parking space, an accessible porta-potty, and a potable water spigot near the information kiosk. There is no cell phone service in this area. There is a ¼-mile flat, paved road from the White Barn lot to the Lower Bald Mountain trailhead next to the Robert Ferguson Observatory. Lower Bald Mountain Trail is a dirt and gravel trail of approximately one mile in length and 500 ft of elevation gain. It has narrow sections with steps and switchbacks, as well as some wider sections in full sun exposure. It connects with Bald Mountain Trail, a paved fire road. The junction with Vista Trail is 0.2 miles uphill on Bald Mountain Trail. Vista Trail is a narrow footpath of approximately 1.6 miles with slippery areas and 3 sets of built-in stairs. It connects with Gray Pine, which is a fire road, and then with Meadow Trail, which is also a fire road of approximately 0.8 miles back to the Robert Ferguson Observatory.
