About G. Bodile Balams

Artist G.Bodile Balams, is an indigenous native of Alabama, born in the Mobile’s Africa Town district of Allentown. He began drawing at a young age. His first one man exhibition was in 1975, while graduating ‘Art Elite’ from his high school. His education continued at Morehouse college. While attending Morehouse he created significant pieces of paintings, drawings, and sculptures. To date he has painted three series which include Patterns in Africa, John Henry When he was a Boy, and New Art for New Minds. His work is amongst numerous private and corporate collections.


Mr. Balams’ work experience includes Scenic Painter for Spike Lee's production of School Daze, Graphic Artist for the Birmingham Transit Authority, Illustrator for Select Publishing Co. He has also worked as Associate Publisher for Talking Drums Magazine, and Founded Bodile Nu Arts Production, where he worked as Art Director for a variety of projects.
Balams, has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions throughout his career as an artist, fulfilling his need to share his artistic Vision with all those who came to participate. He became a member of the NCA in 1978, National Conference of Artists (founded 1958), he later assisted in hosting the group's joint conference in Birmingham, AL. Balams, served as board member for the Select Publishing Corporation for Three Years and board member for the Cultural Alliance of greater Birmingham for a number of years. He is currently serving as board member for Natures Garden for Victory and Peace, acting as Chairman of the Artist Village Program. He continues to work and study as an artist after nearly four decades.
