Adults £15 / Under 18's £2 When we heard that sax suprema and friend of EAC Beccy Rork was coming back to the Island for a few shows, we made sure that she dropped into Jazz Club for a guest appearance with local heroes Blue Vannin.
Beccy Rork is a saxophonist, teacher and arranger living in East Sussex. She began playing saxophone in the 1990s and went on to study Jazz, Popular and Contemporary Music at Leeds College of Music, where she met Jackie Grace (trombone) on her first day there. So began a musical connection with Jackie, the Isle of Man and its jazz scene, her first visit being to play at Jackie and Ed’s wedding party in 2004.
She has made regular appearances at EAC, playing with Blue Vannin, the Leeds Conservatoire House Trio and Court and Spark as part of the 2022, 2023 and 2025 Port Erin Jazz Festivals. She currently performs with a number of UK-based outfits, playing jazz, soul, funk and blues and her melodic style and warm tone have been likened to that of Art Pepper, Paul Desmond and Bud Shank, while her tenor playing is influenced by tenor greats Stan Getz and Stanley Turrentine among others.
The EAC Jazz Club's house band, Blue Vannin, are a local ensemble committed to supporting and promoting jazz on the island. They were formed in 2017 for a one off cameo performance as a tribute to John Coltrane and have been through many re incarnations, with only drummer Jim Houghton and saxophonist Jerry Carter remaining from the original line up . Under the musical directorship of piano man John Stillman, the music has taken a melodic turn and BV are in demand on and off the island. They recently toured in Brighton and have been invited to play at the prestigious Swansea International jazz festival in September. Woodwind, brass, guitars and piano combine in an eclectic mix of songs ranging from the great American songbook to Coltrane and Herbie Hancock.
This event is general admission with cabaret seating.
