Adults £8 / under 18s £2Alan Bennett’s new film, The Choral, reunites him with Lady in the Van and The Madness of King George director Nicholas Hytner.
In the fictional Yorkshire town of Ramsden, male members of the local choral society are leaving to enlist in the army during World War 1, whilst the younger men grapple with their impending conscription. As the war rages, new choirmaster Dr Guthrie (Ralph Fiennes) is obliged to recruit singers where he can, bringing the community together to make beautiful music in response to the chaos.
The Choral is unsentimental, witty and poignant, as you would expect from Bennett, with a stellar supporting cast comprising: Roger Allam, Mark Addy, Alun Armstrong, Robert Emms, and Simon Russell Beale.
An excellent British movie in the classic tradition of Brassed Off.
