In 2013, the world lost a bright light. Dustin was kind-hearted, happy and a joy to be around. He was full of positive energy and always encouraging others. Proof that anyone can be lost to suicide in an instant. We believe that advocating for suicide prevention programs that help erase the stigma of depression and making proper mental health care more easily available, lives can be saved. In searching for programs in NY's Capital Region that offer support and assistance for those struggling with these issues, it has become painfully apparent that these programs are few and far between compared to the need proven by the increasing rates of suicide.
Past Memorial Concerts combined have raised over $183,000 for Capital Region not-for-profits, and have draw 400-500 people in each year, including Congressman Paul Tonko and many Troy city officials. The concerts have been credited as the top local music event of the year by the Troy Record. Over the years, funds have also been raised for the Lansingburgh Boys and Girls Club, the Companion Animal Placement Program (CAPP), the Troy Music Academy Music Scholarship Program, and the Rensselaer County Heroes at Home project.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) credited the Dustin Mele Memorial Concert as the top fund-raiser in upstate New York at AFSP’s largest annual event the Walk for R.I.T.A., in past years, which raises money for suicide awareness, suicide prevention and family support programs.
This years beneficiaries are AFSP (American Foundation For Suicide Prevention) NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), and Catholic Charities.
This years musical line up includes Super 400, fresh off the release of their new album Spirit In The Sound and a collection of the best of the best of our local favorite musicians who have put together a special show of Motown R&B classics.
We would like to thank the musicians who make this concert a favorite every year and the sponsors and donors who are also a huge part of the concerts success.
