About this Event

DUMP archive is very excited to present two workshops delivered by DUMP01 Artists in parallel to our exhibition schedule this October at Greatorex St. Those two workshops celebrates collaboration and provides artists’ unique reflections upon two DUMP concerns: 1. space in relation to art production 2. art and value. You can book your ticket for one or both events. Participation is FREE!

DATE: SAT 28 OCT 2023

TIME: 2 - 3.30pm (workshop1); 3.30 - 4:30 (workshop2)

LOCATION: 10 Greatorex Street, E1 5NF

WORKSHOP1: Space is THE precious thing in London. Delivered by artists Hannah Imhof and Dou Dou

This workshop will be split in two parts: We will start with “free writing” after Ken Macrorie, where we reflect on our own experiences with space in London. Inspired by the “A Room of One's Own” by Virginia Woolf we will have a look at our own, individual experiences with limited space in London for living, working and storing - what also brings the exhibiting artists to throw their artworks away, or to donate them to hello DUMP.

In the second part of the workshop, we will do performative interventions with our body in the gallery space and in the public side around it. Inspired by the work Body Configurations, 1972-76 by VALIE EXPORT. We will find a performative form for our previous reflections.

WORKSHOP2 : Scavenging Scoundrels delivered by Odie-grace Kalu and Jack Milner

The ‘Scavenging Scoundrels’ workshop by Jack Milner and Odie-Grace Urum-Kalu will guide you through a multi-media creative journey that blurs the line between the digital and physical. We will focus on the discarded, random and found through a series of exercises and talks & you will be left with a contextually expansive physical takeaway artwork.

About DUMP

DUMP is an archive and a curatorial project that established upon a collectively felt sadness towards the abandoned art objects during studio move-out period. Before those objects are added into the city dump, scavengers like us search for a temporary recovery of its value. Within this extended life span, we hope to see beauty, stupidity, sentiments, and meaning in opposition to the glam of art-making. With our artist-let curatorial approach, we collect, assemble, creating narratives, and posing questions. DUMP celebrates an energy of boldness and openness within an art world reality where the execution of “unsatisfied” artists’ production is traditionally concealed. Yet we are absolutely humble with the knowledge behind it. Our position here is to provoke and to question, collectively, upon subject matters includes value, art recognition, (institutional) power, artwork as image, archiving and more.
