ABOUT THE BOOK

AN INSIDER'S LOOK AT HOW WASHINGTON WORKS

What Hidden Figures was to the moon landing, Winning the Battle Against Myself is to the more mundane realm inside the Beltway. It will validate the experiences of the generation that lived the world of For Colored Girls Who Have considered Politics and inspire the next generation.

As the Supreme Court listens to arguments about race in higher education admissions, as America remains divided down racial lines, as the verdict on democracy hangs in the balance, as Congress questions the lack of an ethics policy for the Supreme Court of the United States, as Black two-parent families become extinct, and as a college education becomes unaffordable and undesirable by many; this book addresses the most critical issues of our day.

This inspirational memoir contains first-hand accounts of the inner workings of government and direct conversations and daily contact with some of America's former political leaders.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dr. Morrison is the only person to have served in top posts in all three branches of the national government. She served the Reagan administration as associate director of the White House Office of Public Liaison and director of the 50 States Project, which studied discrimination in state laws and regulations based on gender.

In 1985, she made history by becoming the first woman and the first Black Officer to serve as Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Sergeant at Arms of the United States Senate. In 1997, she headed the Fair Employment Practices Office and served as Senior Legal and Policy Advisor at the Administrative Office of the United States Courts, a role in which she was responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring the Fair Employment Practices Program in the Federal Judiciary.

Now retired, Dr. Morrison has commendations from four U.S. presidents, two Senate majority leaders, two chief justices, and three United States Supreme Court associate justices.

She is a fifth-generation Coloradan, a fifth-generation African Methodist Episcopal Church member, and a former fifth-generation Republican. In Denver, there is a park named after her grandfather, George Morrison Sr., who was dubbed "Denver's Godfather of Jazz." He was a legendary musician who played with Paul Whiteman, William "Bojangles" Robinson, Nat "King" Cole, Count Basie, Jelly Roll Morton, and Duke Ellington.

Dr. Morrison has earned four degrees: a Bachelor of Science from Colorado State University, a Juris Doctor from the National Law Center at George Washington University, and a Master's Degree and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.

She treasures her status as CSU's first recipient of the William E. Morgan Alumni Achievement Award in 1984. This award is the highest honor given and reserved for alums who have excelled nationally or internationally.

She lives outside Denver in Aurora, Colorado.
