## Description
This is an outdoor street-level portrait photography session with two photographers paired up with one model. The photographers will take turns with photographs and assisting each other with lighting. Each session will last 45 minutes, a second outing scheduled an hour later. We anticipate four to six models participating, which will be set up in TicketTailor with blind assignments (e.g. "Model A" and "Model B"). The group will meet on the Supreme Court steps in downtown St. John's and use the local features to create their photographs. The club will bring portable lights and triggers, but we have no modifiers. If you have your own Bowens type modifiers we have two Godox A2B adapters. Anyone with an S-type flash to Bowens bracket should bring it as this fit the AD200.
## Background
Street-level portraits combine the drama of urban environments with the artistry of portrait photography. This outing allows participants to experiment with composition, lighting, and creative direction in a dynamic setting.
Many notable fashion photographers have used urban landscapes as their canvas, including Peter Lindbergh, whose gritty black-and-white images often placed models against industrial backdrops, and Helmut Newton, who incorporated bold architectural lines into his dramatic portraiture. Contemporary photographers such as Brandon Woelfel have also leveraged the vibrancy of city streets to bring a sense of energy and immediacy to their fashion work. Explore their photography and learn how the urban environment adds texture, contrast, and narrative to portraiture, turning ordinary streets into compelling visual stories.
Technically, shooting portraits in urban spaces requires careful attention to both light and background. Photographers must balance natural light with fill lighting, manage reflections from glass or metal surfaces, and creatively use shadows for mood. Compositionally, the challenge is integrating the model within a busy environment—framing architectural lines, balancing depth, and avoiding distractions. Artistically, it invites experimentation: blending fashion with street culture, contrasting elegance with grit, and telling a story that links subject to setting. You might want to consider exploring the area and developing a plan ahead of the session.
## Shared Images
**Photographers:** **This club outing has the understanding that images will be shared with participating models in a “pose-for-pictures” arrangement.** After these outings, members are asked to select their best images and place them in a dedicated folder separate from the standard Show and Tell. The club will view these images as a slideshow, similar to CAPA submissions, without discussion. If a member wishes to discuss one of these images, it should also be uploaded to Show and Tell—but sparingly, as may be repetitive. The dedicated folder will be provided to the participating models, but you may also share additional images on your own. Photographers should bring reflectors or small modifiers if desired, and follow clear rules to keep sessions running smoothly.
**Models:** **This is a a pose-for-pictures arrangement and you will get a bunch of shots for your personal use.** If you're building a portfolio or wanting practice, this is a great opportunity. Some of the photographers are gold medal winning art, fashion, and portrait photographers while others may be less experienced. There will be lots of ranges in style and we will try to connect everyone with a variety.
