This live, interactive course will explore the topic of safety planning.
The practice of safety planning plays a significant role when supporting those impacted by violence. You will leave this course with the tools you need to understand risk, identify times when a safety plan is needed, and develop a basic safety plan with clients from diverse backgrounds.
Target Audience: Social workers and related healthcare and human services professionals.
Content Level: Beginner to intermediate.
Prerequisite: There are no prerequisites.
Credits: 5.0

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
By the end of this workshop participants will be able to:
- Identify situations when a safety plan is needed
- Recognize at least one risk and one protective factor related to domestic violence
- Describe different domestic violence resources and supports
- Develop a basic domestic violence safety plan for an adult and a child
Evaluations:
Course evaluations will be emailed to participants who complete the course. The evaluations are completed online. You will have up to three business days to complete the surveys.
Course completion:
To receive ACE credits, participants must attend the full course, partial credits are not provided. Certificates of completion are emailed to participants within five business days of receiving their completed course evaluation.
Refunds:
Course registrations cancelled five or more business days prior to the course are refundable less a 25% administration fee. Unfortunately, cancellations with less than five business days’ notice are not refundable.
You are welcome to transfer your registration to another person with at least two business days’ notice. Should you wish to transfer your registration please email [email protected]. Be sure to provide the workshop name and date, your name, and the name and contact information of the person who will be attending in your place.
Course cancellation:
Please note that if the advertised course instructor is unavailable, we reserve the right to assign another member of our team to deliver the course.
If we need to cancel the course due to unforeseen and/or extenuating circumstances, we will honor registration and reschedule the course for another date. If you are unable to attend on the new date, a full refund will be offered.

Continuing education approval:
The continuing education credits for this course are recognized as “Category A Continuing Competence Credits” by the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).
YW Calgary Continuing Education, provider 1785, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved as ACE providers. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. YW Calgary Continuing Education maintains responsibility for this course. ACE provider approval period: 01/27/2022 to 01/27/2026. Social workers completing this course receive 5.0 continuing education credits.
