A fixture each spring, the Dogwood Trail Bike Ride and Community Meal helps define Paducah as a mecca for laid back bicyclists. A no-charge gathering requiring only a bicycle and a helmet, the come-as-you-are event brings together riders of all levels and ages. A well-marked route meanders through picturesque neighborhoods festooned with blossoms of the moment, dogwoods, cherry and apple trees alongside dancing islands of azaleas, pansies, tulips, and daffodils. The ride typically takes just over an hour but depending on biking experience, fitness, stops, and type of bicycle, it may last from 45 minutes to a couple of hours. There is vehicle support for anyone who has mechanical difficulty, or who requests a lift back to the start. About 3:30 p.m. food appears. BikeWorld provides meat, bread, drinks, limited sides and table wear, but everyone is welcome to add dishes to the spread and the tables usually end up groaning with food.
Bicycling in crisp spring air, well-earned delicious food, good company, new friends, and the satisfying accomplishment of a personal adventure, the Dogwood Trail Ride offers an experience to smile about. Rain date: April 19.
