ABOUT THE BOOK

The Lost Trees of Willow Avenue: A Story of Climate and Hope on One American Street chronicles how the sudden loss of mature trees on a single street in Takoma Park, Maryland, becomes a window into the larger impacts of climate change, urban development, and extreme weather.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

MIKE TIDWELL is a writer and climate activist living in Takoma Park, Maryland. His books include Bayou Farewell, about the disappearing wetlands and Cajun culture in south Louisiana. As a contributing travel writer for The Washington Post, Tidwell has won four Lowell Thomas Awards, the highest prize in American travel journalism. In 2002 he founded the Chesapeake Climate Action Network, and still serves as execeutive director, where he has led local, state, and national campaigns for clean energy. He lives on Willow Avenue in Takoma Park with his wife, Beth, and their cat, Macy Gray.

In this documentary author Mike Tidwell gives a tour of his neighborhood, the inspiration for his book. Using one square block, the film shows how the consequences of climate change can be seen on any spot on the planet.

ABOUT THE FILMMAKER

RICHARD HALL specializes in documentaries on history & politics. He searches for & posts public domain films to the Nerds Make Media YouTube channel. Richard departed C-SPAN in 2021 after 30 years - working primarily as a video journalist. Richard's films include, American Feud: A History of Conservatives & Liberals, Confounding Father: A Contrarian View of the US Constitution, and The World We Wanted. He presents “Vintage Movie Night” screenings of short ephemeral films. He is currently editing several documentaries for the nonprofit Saving Slave Houses. Richard lives in Aspen Hill, Maryland with his wife & filmmaking partner Simone Fary.

ABOUT DOCS IN PROGRESS

Docs In Progress is a nonprofit that supports documentary filmmakers through workshops, feedback screenings, and fellowship programs. It helps filmmakers develop skills, refine projects, and engage with the community through film. It offers networking opportunities. The organization engages audiences and connects the local community with documentary films that address social, cultural, and historical topics. Docs In Progress runs workshops specifically for youth, helping young people learn about documentary filmmaking and use it as a tool to tell their stories.
