Foghlaim agus Caomhnú Teangacha Mionlaithe a Iniúchadh trí Léirithe agus Gníomhaíochtaí Cultúrtha don Óige.
About this Event

Dé hAoine, an 15 Bealtaine 2026, beidh comhdháil ar siúl in DkIT, i gcomhpháirt le hOllscoil Mhá Nuad – Foghlaim agus Caomhnú Teangacha Mionlaithe a Iniúchadh trí Léirithe agus Gníomhaíochtaí Cultúrtha don Óige.

Sa mhaidin, cloisfimid ó chainteoirí a roinnfidh a dtaithí linn ar threorú tionscadal a thugann deiseanna do dhaoine óga teangacha mionlaigh a labhairt trí ghníomhaíochtaí cultúrtha go háirithe. Beidh béim ar an nGaeilge i gcuid mhaith de na cainteanna, agus tá ríméad orainn fáilte chroíúil a chur roimh thoscairí idirnáisiúnta ón gCatalóin agus ó Ghlaschú, a labhróidh linn faoina gcuid oibre maidir leis an gCatalóinis agus an Ghàidhlig. Beidh cuid de na cainteanna dátheangach, agus cuid eile i nGaeilge, i mBéarla, i gCatalóinis nó i nGàidhlig.

Sa tráthnóna (2 i.n.) beidh comhrá comhstádais againn. Beidh deis ag an té a thugann deiseanna do dhaoine óga sa cheantar (agus níos faide i gcéin) an teanga a labhairt trí mheán gníomhaíochtaí cultúrtha agus a gcuid cleachtas agus smaointe a roinnt lena chéile.

Tá an ócáid seo á tacú ag Ciste Forbartha na hEarnála Teicneolaíochta de chuid an Údaráis um Ard-Oideachas.

On Friday 15th May 2026, DkIT, in partnership with Maynooth University, will host a one-day conference – Exploring Minoritised Language Learning and Maintenance through Youth-Centred Cultural Production and Activities.

In the morning session, we will hear from speakers who will share their experiences of leading projects that give young people opportunities to speak a minority language through cultural and other activities. Many of the talks will focus on the Irish language, while we are delighted also to welcome international delegates from Catalonia and Glasgow, who will share their work in relation to Catalan and Gàidhlig. Some talks will be bilingual, while others will be in Irish, English, Gàidhlig or Catalan.

In the afternoon, at 2pm, we will host a roundtable discussion. Those who provide opportunities for young people in our region (and internationally) to learn a minority language through cultural and other activities will have an opportunity to share their practices, thoughts and ideas.

This symposium is supported by the 2025 Seed Fund for Dundalk Institute of Technology and the National University of Ireland, Maynooth and is funded through An tÚdarás um Ard-Oideachas and its Technological Sector Advancement Fund.
