About this Event
Dix Hill Asylum was the first and largest "lunatic asylum" in North Carolina history. What started as the dream of Dorothea Dix, a safe refuge for the widely abused mentally ill population of North Carolina, quickly developed into one of the most notorious asylums in American history. Join us on this historian-guided tour of the grounds of Dix Hill asylum, dive into the most disturbing stories from the asylum, and learn about the early history and evolution of mental health treatment in America.
This is a non-profit event that is free for the public to attend. Donations are never required but are highly appreciated, as they help us continue our mission of providing great public history events free of charge.
