The Display Evaluation Summit (DES) is a focused, in-person event dedicated to the art, science, and craft of evaluating modern video displays. It brings together colourists, post-production professionals, engineers, manufacturers, calibrators, and serious enthusiasts to explore how images are actually created, judged, and experienced across professional and consumer environments.
At the core of DES is a shared goal: to better understand how creative intent survives the journey from reference-grade mastering displays to the wide variety of screens used in the real world. Through carefully structured sessions and precise video calibration, attendees gain insight into how display technologies behave under real evaluation conditions—and why those differences matter when critical visual decisions are being made.
DES features expert-led discussion panels, technical demonstrations, and controlled display comparisons using professional reference monitors alongside high-end consumer displays. These sessions are designed to be practical and revealing, offering attendees rare opportunities to see displays assessed side-by-side, calibrated to the same targets with the same reference spectroradiometer, and under consistent conditions by experienced professionals who work with these tools every day.
A key element of the summit is its independent Colour Assessment Panel, composed of respected colourists and imaging specialists. This panel conducts structured, technical evaluations of participating displays, focusing on performance characteristics that directly affect image fidelity. While specific methodologies remain internal to the panel, attendees benefit from the insights, observations, and conclusions drawn from these assessments.
DES is not a trade show, nor is it a product launch event. It is a curated, discussion-driven experience that prioritizes clarity, education, and professional dialogue over marketing narratives. Manufacturers participate by showcasing their best reference and evaluation-grade displays, supporting open conversation about strengths, limitations, and real-world application.
Whether you work in post-production, broadcast, display manufacturing, calibration, or are deeply invested in image quality as a craft, DES offers a rare environment for meaningful learning and connection. Attending DES means engaging directly with the people, tools, and ideas shaping how images are evaluated today—and how they will be seen tomorrow.
