Discover the Fun of Model BuildingWednesday, March 19th at 6:30pm at the Library
This presentation will introduce folks to the hobby of Fine Scale Modeling, and will offer ways to advance skills for those already involved. Our presenter, Steve Woodsum, will display some samples of his work and answer questions with regard to the process of building a scale model. He will introduce the wide range of subjects available, including ships, cars, aircraft, military subjects, figures, science fiction and more! He will discuss the various tools and supplies needed to get started and where such things can be obtained, and will answer any and all questions that folks might have about the world of scale miniatures. [Note: This program is not intended to encompass model railroading, radio control models or pre-built diecast models. All of these are wonderful in their own way, but are not considered part of the world of Fine Scale Modeling.]
This FREE program, to be held at the Readfield Community Library on Wednesday, March 19th at 6:30pm, is for all ages, young and old, and is a fabulous opportunity for intergenerational fun (child/parent/grandparent)! This event is sponsored by the Readfield Community Library and Readfield U (a free pop-up University). Note: If there is interest, Steve may help facilitate meeting on a regular basis in order to share techniques, resources and completed or in-progress work.
About the presenter: Steve joined the Navy after high school and became part of the Navy Special Warfare community. After 6 years of service during the Vietnam War, Steve left the Navy and worked as a Chrysler Tech rep, falling back on his pre-Navy work at Bob Sharp Racing to continue in the automotive world. Steve then completed both undergraduate and graduate degrees in history and history education. A 35-year career in education culminated at the university level as a history and political science professor. Today, Steve owns a small auto repair shop where he specializes in vintage and exotic mechanical restoration. Great Northern Motor Works also serves as the local garage for friends and neighbors. Steve has been fascinated with scale miniatures throughout his life. He finds building models to be relaxing, fun, and a great way to represent all of his areas of interest in miniature. A few of his builds have won awards in the international plastic modeling community and he has made lifelong friends through the shared interest. His hope is that he might help to spread the joy of this hobby with other folks and to offer an alternative to staring at video screens day and night!
