Come to the launch event of the online exhibition 'Brian Aldiss and the Natural World' at the Waterhouse Cafe in the Victoria Gallery & Museum. You will get the chance to see some of the physical items that went into the exhibition and to hear about the life and work of one of science fiction's most influential authors.August 2025 marks a hundred years since the birth of Brian Aldiss (1925-2017). To celebrate the centenary, the University of Liverpool's Special Collections and Archives are hosting the online exhibition 'Brian Aldiss and the Natural World' on the University of Liverpool's Digital Heritage Lab.
The exhibition traces the enduring exploration in Aldiss's fiction of humanity's relationship with nature. In a time of impending climate catastrophe, Aldiss's work speaks to us of the bonds that tie us to the world around us and reminds us of the need to care for, protect, and maintain the environment, as much for our own survival as for the survival of the ecosystems that sustain us.
The in person launch event will include short talks by some of those involved with the creation of the exhibition and from the Brian W. Aldiss estate. In addition, there will be cases on display showing some of the items that were photographed for the online exhibition. Refreshments and snacks will be available.
