About this Event
A series of 6 illustrated talks by Dick Lee which explore Philip Larkin's passion for jazz by listening to and discussing the recordings which the poet reviewed in his regular column of jazz criticism in the Daily Telegraph between 1961 and 1971. Larkin's trenchant views on the music, beautifully expressed as befits one who turned down the post of Poet Laureate, are a great stimulus for discussion and analysis.
Nearly all of the recordings which found their way onto his gramophone to be reviewed are now available on YouTube, often with video footage of the performances and interviews with the artists. Dick will be playing live examples too, on clarinet, bass clarinet, saxophone and recorder.
