About this Event

Diagnostic Ultrasound Training: Introduction to Lower Limb Pathology

Date: 25/04/26

Location: Spine Manchester Hospital

Important information: Attendees who already a Konted Wireless US customer will be expected to bring their portable device and smart phone/tablet to the training for practical sessions.

Non Konted customers may either bring their own portable device or be provided with a Konted training device. Practical application will be provided in groups of 2-3 dependent on numbers

Course Content: A foundation MSK ultrasound course covering core ultrasound principles (physics, safety, artefacts, image optimisation) and their practical application to lower-limb scanning of the knee, ankle and foot. Delegates will learn how to acquire, optimise and document high-quality images using a structured, repeatable approach aligned to common MSK protocols.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

1. Explain key MSK ultrasound principles (frequency, attenuation, impedance, reflection/refraction) relevant to superficial lower-limb structures.

2. Choose appropriate probes/presets for knee vs ankle/foot scanning and understand depth/field-of-view trade-offs.

3. Optimise images using knobology (depth, gain, focus, TGC, dynamic range; compound/harmonics where available).

4. Recognise and correct key MSK artefacts (especially anisotropy in tendons/ligaments).

5. Perform a structured scan of:

Knee (anterior, medial, lateral, posterior)

Ankle (anterior, medial, lateral, posterior)

Foot (plantar fascia + forefoot screening if time)

6. Apply Colour/Power Doppler appropriately to assess hyperaemia and avoid false positives.

7. Capture a standard labelled image set and produce a clear, clinically useful documentation note/report.
