South London’s Dexter In The Newsagent is one of the UK’s most exciting and authentic new voices. Her music captures the restless, reflective energy of coming of age, blending lo-fi intimacy with sharp songwriting and understated soul.
Having first started releasing music under the moniker ‘dexter’ to keep her creative world secret from her family, she quickly caught attention with self-recorded tracks made on her iPhone. Her debut EP, I Do Love a Good Sandwich, marked a turning point both sonically and personally, introducing listeners to her raw honesty and melodic instinct. The project drew praise from BBC Radio 1 (Annie Mac, Clara Amfo), NME, Pigeons & Planes, Clash, and The Line of Best Fit, with its artwork created by acclaimed artist Slawn, making it a defining early moment in her rise.
Signed to RULESTHEWORLD Records (the music arm of Corteiz), Dexter has gone from DIY bedroom recordings to selling out headline shows and supporting some of the most forward-thinking artists in music today. Following her acclaimed 2022 project Fortune Cookie, which featured fan favourites “Something Real” and “Vexed”, she’s continued to evolve her sound with singles like “Special”, “Eighteen”, and “I Told Ya.”
Her lyrics explore the messy, beautiful in-betweens of young adulthood, love, frustration, self-doubt, and growth, all with a conversational honesty that’s become her signature. Dexter’s voice, soft yet striking, moves between vulnerability and quiet confidence, earning her comparisons to the UK’s most vital new storytellers.
Over the past year, Dexter has toured with Denzel Curry, supported Fred Again at London’s iconic Roundhouse, toured the UK on Jim Legxacy’s sold out tour as well as an appearance on his Black British Music (2025) album. She also delivered a standout performance at Fête de la Musique in Paris, alongside a pop-up collaboration with Always Do What You Should Do.
In November, Dexter joined Blood Orange on tour, a fitting next chapter for an artist steadily carving out her own space in the UK music landscape.
Dexter released her first full-length project, Time Flies, in September 2025, a deeply personal mixtape that marks a new era of growth and reflection.
“‘Time Flies’ is my first full-length project, a mixtape that highlights the things that carried me through my grief journey. It explores how love, in all its forms, helped me navigate my grief. The title reflects how time itself became a healer and how at the end of the day, no matter how big or small, time will always pass.” — Dexter In The Newsagent
With more new music on the horizon and an ever-growing global following, Dexter In The Newsagent continues to prove that honesty, introspection, and a little bit of South London charm still go a long way.
