About this Event
(l-r : Gigi & Chantelle by Roman Manfredi; Shifting Bodies by Paloma Manfredi; Rituals & Symbols by Violeta Sofia; Oge/Birth of a Mother by Hanna Ali)
Why are personal projects important? How do you define a personal project and how to choose between subjects? Can personal projects be funded and how? Where can you find the time for such a project?
Chaired by Angela Nicholson - editor, writer and founder of SheClicks, a platform to support female photographers - this event will prove useful for anyone interested in starting their own photographic or videography project. Incorporating the experiences of the finalists Roman Manfredi, Violeta Sofia, Hanna Ali and Paloma Tendero, whose personal projects have ranged from heredity, genetics and their impact on identity and timelines of life to Black motherhood to themes of equity, solidarity and working class roots through a women/non-binary football team, the discussion will raise useful pointers and suggestions throughout. Registered attendees will be offered the chance to submit questions to the panel before the talk. The exhibition will be open to all attendees and opportunities to network will follow the talk.
The 70:15:40 Project UK was initiated by MPB and supported by the Royal Photographic Society, Peerspace, SheClicks and UKBFTOG, to highlight the gender imbalance within the photographic and videography industries. Set up as a national competition through an open call, the four finalists received financial support, equipment and studio hire and mentoring as well as an opportunity to show their new work in this celebratory exhibition which runs until 3 December (Mon-Fri: 11am—5pm, Sat/Sun: 10-5pm).
