Talk #1
? Clare Melina McNally - Breaking corporate bullshit by design

How do large organisations stay lean? We believe design has a critical role to play in helping businesses to become and stay nimble. But how does this work if the design practice is set up in a distributed manner? How does product, design and engineering work together within each team, while staying connected and aligned? Importantly, how do we ensure fragmentation and silos are removed?

At Backbase we face a number of these challenges, but we have strong ambition to change the financial industry. We are on a mission to tackle the status quo and we would love to share our insights and best practices with you.

About Clare Melina McNally: she has over 15 years of experience as product designer within the financial services industry. She has had numerous roles including researcher, UX/UI designer, design lead and strategist. The combination of this wide range of expertise combined with her deep industry knowledge allowed her to hold leading positions within the design department of financial institutions. Her main drive is to make the financial industry more user centric.

Talk #2
? Peter Boersma - DesignOps at Miro

Have you recently worked on design team culture, on selecting the best tools for designers, or on aligning processes between designers, engineers, and product managers? Have you defined your team’s role descriptions or career ladders? Do you manage the design team’s learning & development budget? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you have been performing DesignOps tasks and you may want to learn more about how those tasks are performed elsewhere.

After a high-level introduction of the field of DesignOps and what it can mean for an organization, Peter will use his DesignOps roadmap as a guide to explain how he - a DesignOps team-of-one - helps create the circumstances for good design to happen at Miro. You will get sneak peeks at dashboards, trackers, and OKRs of the Product Excellence team that he is part of.

About Peter Boersma: he has more than 25 years of experience in the field of user experience (UX), working as a designer, strategist, and design manager at agencies, as a freelancer, and in-house. Over time, he developed an interest in the way design gets done. He has taught workshops and has spoken about documenting and improving design processes at many UX-related conferences. Since 2021, he works as DesignOps Manager at Miro, the leading visual collaboration platform.

Talk #3
? Vincent Koopmans - Brand Experience Systems: How to enable consistent brand experiences

In the last few years Design Systems have become an integral part of product design. Born out of a need for easier scaling product design and better UX consistency across products.

They changed workflows, tools and team setups for the better. However, a huge part that is often overlooked is the Brand itself. The knowledge of a Brand’s values, story and how it should consistently communicate with it’s customers across specific touchpoints should be accessible to all Product Design teams.

About Vincent Koopmans: Design Director at Resoluut, started his design career 25 years ago. Vincent discovered when working for brands like Bol.com, Ahold,Rabobank, Liberty Global, ING and many more that a systematic approach to Product Design mixed with a proper understanding of a Brand’s ‘identity’ creates much better customer experiences.
