DESIGN, ASK, ANALYSE: BUILDING BETTER SURVEYS FOR BIGGER IMPACT
Learn how to design effective surveys and analyse responses to generate meaningful, actionable insights that support program improvement and evaluation.
This skill-building session is tailored for professionals in government, not-for-profits, corporate social responsibility, social enterprises, and consultancy firms. You’ll explore best practices in question design, sampling, and data analysis, along with common pitfalls to avoid so you can confidently create surveys that deliver reliable and relevant results.
Learning outcomes:
· Understand you would choose to use a survey
· Review advantages and disadvantages of using a survey
· Learn effective question design and sampling
· Explore approaches to survey data analysis
· Consider ethics relating to surveys
Workshop content:
· Overview of survey application – when and how are they used
· Discussion around advantages and disadvantages of using a survey, including ethics considerations
· Overview of best practice in question design
· Overview of sampling considerations
· Overview of approaches to survey data analysis
· Discussion around common pitfalls in administering surveys
FACILITATORS
Cat Street
Cat Street has been involved in First Nations public policy and program research and evaluation in a variety of local, state and national contexts over the last twelve years.
Cat’s primary interest is in enhancing First Nations cultural safety in research and evaluation through appropriate governance, leadership, and workforce practices. She advocates for self-determination embedded within research and evaluation designs right through to data analysis and reporting and adherence to appropriate ethics protocols. She has made significant contributions to policies and programs through ensuring that research and evaluations focus on accountability to, and benefit for, First Nations people and communities. Her work in this area was recognised by the Australian Evaluation Society in 2022, winning the Indigenous Evaluation Award for her work in theorising culturally safe governance for First Nations evaluation.
Nic Badullovich
Dr Nic Badullovich is a social scientist and Research Fellow at the Centre for Social Impact UWA [https://www.csi.edu.au/our-network/csi-uwa/]. Nic's work focuses on science and climate change communication, which involves partnering with organisations, and employing quantitative and qualitative methods to ensure research delivers practical and social impact.
