A truly great lady of jazz will be appearing at Half Note for four unique nights, introducing herself to the Athenian audience through these performances. She has been described as “the most creative and compelling pianist-vocalist since Shirley Horn”—and not without reason.
The remarkable musician, bandleader, composer, and educator Dena DeRose possesses the rare gift of singing beautifully while playing the piano with equal mastery—something reminiscent of Shirley Horn and, of course, the great Nat King Cole.
An internationally recognized figure for many years, DeRose is known for giving her soul in every performance. Her playing is always distinctive, offering a wonderful tone and a deep sense of swing in both her original compositions and her interpretations of classics from the American Songbook. Having just celebrated her 60th birthday, Dena DeRose comes to us—as she often does—with her outstanding trio.
For her first four appearances in Athens at Half Note from March 20 to 23, Dena DeRose will perform with her trio, featuring herself on piano and vocals, the exceptional bassist Darryl Hall, and the outstanding drummer Mario Gonzi.
