The Growth Impact Fund (GIF) is a social investment fund, helping fast growth early-stage social businesses to grow their impact. It is a joint venture run in partnership with Big Issue Invest, and UnLtd.The Fund exists to make social investment better for founders from underrepresented backgrounds and their teams. Since launching in 2022, the Fund has invested in 11 social purpose organisations across the UK, who have collectively reached 65,000 people facing inequities in the UK. Barking & Dagenham Giving Barking and Dagenham Giving was set up in 2020 to give local people more opportunities to participate in decision-making. Uniquely, all our funding and investment decisions are made by residents to achieve social good in one of the most deprived boroughs in England.

Our aim is to attract additional investment to the borough to tackle systemic issues like child obesity, domestic abuse and a lack of opportunities for young people. We’re in it for the long haul - and we’re hopeful about the future in Barking and Dagenham. Local people have the appetite to improve the borough and our community-led grantmaking and social investment can accelerate their efforts.
