About this Event
Dementia‑related behaviors can feel confusing, frustrating, or even alarming. This session offers a compassionate reframe: behaviors are often communication, not problems to fix.
This session helps caregivers understand why behaviors happen and how unmet human needs may be expressed through changes in mood, actions, or communication.
This session is part of the ABC Dementia Care Empowerment Series, hosted by Sagebrush Speech Therapy and facilitated by ABC Dementia Care.
Session Focus
Understanding Unmet Needs: Why Behaviors Are Messages
We will explore:
- The Six Human Needs framework (physical, emotional, social, mental, vocational, spiritual)
- How unmet needs often appear as behaviors
- Common behavior “triggers” and what they may be communicating
- Shifting from correction to curiosity and connection
You’ll leave with a clearer lens for understanding behaviors and reassurance that many challenges make sense when viewed through a needs‑based perspective.
What to Expect
- Brief, practical education grounded in the Six Human Needs framework
- Open discussion and shared problem‑solving
- Space for connection, validation, and support
This is not a clinical lecture. It is a gentle, supportive conversation for caregivers and community members.
