We are very excited that Dee Mathews is returning to the Bay Area for a week, and joining Dee at this workshop will be one of our favorite local teachers: Carissa Koo!The workshop covers three topics, each of which is taught in a separate class.
• Turns and Spins, Faster! Rotation and turning are some of the mechanics that make Balboa unique in swing dancing and in this class you’ll work both on individual and partnered turn mechanics and learn how to execute some fun speedy ones!
• ELEF Fundamentals: ELEF stands for “Everybody Leads, Everybody Follows” and in this class you’ll learn the fundamentals of your partner role and why it's so good for your dancing to do so!
• Shared Musicality: Music is the heart of our dancing and in this class you’ll learn how to create more shared musical moments as a follower and adapt to different situations and partners as a leader.
This workshop is open to dancers of all levels so long as they have an understanding of Balboa or swing dance fundamentals. It is more suitable for dancers who are comfortable dancing all basic Balboa moves at 180+ BPM and are ready to refine their skills.
***SCHEDULE***
The entire workshop is 4 hours long (1pm - 5pm) with breaks between classes so that you can rest, ask teachers questions, get feedback, and practice with other fellow workshop attendees.

***ABOUT DEE***
Dee Mathews is a Balboa and Lindy Hop instructor who learned Balboa as both a lead and follow in 2010 while working with Randy Maestretti and Kara Britt. Dee has absorbed a love of Pure Balboa and the styling of its original dancers.
Dee has danced, taught and competed in Balboa all over the world, winning contests at the California Balboa Classic, All Balboa Weekend and International Lindy Hop Championship festivals, and has been a mentor at The Balboa Experiment.
Dee firmly believes that Balboa is a dance of connection, playfulness and dynamism and is always excited to explore the fundamental mechanics of the dance and help students find new ways to enjoy it by being more musical and by learning to listen to their dance partners for inspiration.
Dee is now based in Greensboro, NC.
