Healing After Trauma: Film Screening & Panel Discussion

April 21, 6:00–7:00 PM | Helix Building

Join us for a powerful evening focused on recovery, resilience, and the healing journey after traumatic injury. This event includes a screening of Death By Numbers, the story of a student who survived a school shooting, followed by a meaningful panel discussion centered on post‑traumatic stress and the recovery process after gun violence.

About the Event

This community event brings together clinicians, survivors, and support professionals to explore what recovery truly looks like after a traumatic injury.

Following the film screening, a gunshot wound survivor, a family from Primary Children’s Hospital whose child survived a gunshot wound, and a panel of experts will discuss the psychological and emotional impact of trauma, the challenges of post‑traumatic stress, and the pathways to healing.

Discussion & Support

A licensed clinical social worker from University of Utah Health will moderate the panel and guide the conversation with sensitivity and insight.
An additional social worker will be on site to provide support for attendees who may find the discussion emotionally activating. Therapy Dogs from Golden Healers will be present throughout the film and discussion.

The discussion will highlight:

  • Post‑traumatic stress and how it shows up in survivors
  • The emotional and physical elements of recovery
  • Resilience and coping strategies for individuals and families

Resource tables with educational materials and support information will be available before and after the program. Complimentary refreshments are included.
