Join DC Gaymers every Thursday for our LGBTQ+ Magic: The Gathering Night! That’s right: We’re slingin’ cardboard, folks! We play from 6:00 PM to closing time each week at The Red Derby in Columbia Heights.
The Derby (https://www.facebook.com/redderby/) has graciously given us space for two pods (typically four players to a pod) in the back of the bar, however, there’s plenty of space to drink, eat, and socialize! And we might have some overflow space if needed. With food and booze around, please make sure your cards are protected with sleeves!
Magic: The Gathering is a collectible card game. Commander, also known as EDH or “Elder Dragon Highlander,” is a 100-card singleton multiplayer format where you design a deck around the colors and abilities of a legendary creature (your Commander). “Singleton” means you can only have one of any given card, aside from the basic lands that power your deck, so the decks range from hyper-efficient and competitive all the way to silly decks, like only using cards featuring “people sitting in chairs.” Creativity, strategy, and a little bit of zaniness are the hallmarks of a Commander deck. The Red Derby is located at 3718 14th St NW, about 8 blocks from both the Columbia Heights and Petworth Metro stations, and is directly on the 52/54 Metrobus line. If you’re driving, many of the nearby streets off of 14th have parking.
