Enjoy cultural dances performed by members of the Akbacheeitchilewioosh (“those who will become leaders”) from the Little Big Horn College Extension Service Youth Council.
Akbacheeitchilewioosh is a youth leadership program that strives to maintain Apsáalooke (Crow) culture and traditions by engaging in cultural, spiritual, and educational opportunities. Every summer, the group participates in a vision quest as a rite of passage. This deeply personal ceremony is a means to find spiritual guidance and one’s purpose in life that has been practiced for generations. Prior to the vision quest, the youth also learn tools to care for their mental and physical health. To prepare for the experience, which takes place in the Bighorn Mountains, the group learns about environmental science and conservation of natural resources to appreciate their time outdoors. The vision quest limits the use of technology for the youth to better connect with nature, themselves, and each other.
Join us to welcome these young Indigenous leaders as they share their culture and what they’ve learned ahead of their spiritual journeys.
