Always wanted to try skiing but didn’t know where to start? We’ve got you covered.
Join Black People Outside (BPO) for a fully supported beginner ski day at Alpine Valley, created to make your first time on the slopes approachable, fun, and stress-free. This experience removes the usual barriers by handling the logistics — all you have to do is show up ready to try something new.
Whether you’re brand new to skiing or still building confidence, this day is about learning, community, and enjoying the outdoors together.

What’s Included With Your Ticket 🎿🚌
✔️ Round-trip bus transportation from Garfield Park
✔️ Lift ticket for the full day at Alpine Valley
✔️ Ski or snowboard equipment rentals
✔️ Beginner lesson with Alpine Valley instructors
✔️ Group hosting and coordination by Black People Outside
(bus only option is for people who have gear, and passes and already know how to ski or snowboard. it does not include lessons, lift ticket or rentals. The $60 package is the BUS RIDE ONLY)

Please note: attendees must bring their own winter apparel.

Event Timeline ⏰
7:00 AM — Meet-Up at Garfield Park
Check in with Black People Outside, meet the group, and get settled on the bus.
7:30 AM — Bus Departs (Promptly)
🚨 Please arrive on time. The bus will leave at 7:30 AM sharp.
9:30 AM — Arrival at Alpine Valley
- Check-in at the resort
- Equipment rental fitting
10:15 AM – 11:45 AM — Beginner Lessons
Group lesson with Alpine Valley instructors focused on fundamentals and confidence-building.
11:45 AM – 12:30 PM — Break & Lunch 🍽️
Time to grab lunch at the lodge, warm up, and rest.
(Lunch is not included and can be purchased on-site or brought with you.)
12:30 PM – 3:30 PM — Open Ski / Practice Time
Use what you learned in your lesson, take breaks as needed, and enjoy the slopes at your own pace.
Optional group check-ins and encouragement from BPO hosts.
3:30 PM – 4:00 PM — Final Break & Wrap-Up
Return equipment, warm up, and regroup before departure.
4:15 PM — Bus Departs Alpine Valley
6:30 PM — Return to Garfield Park
Expected arrival back in Chicago (traffic and weather permitting)

Do I need prior skiing or snowboarding experience?
No. This event is designed specifically for beginners. No prior experience is required.
What’s included with my ticket?
Your ticket includes round-trip bus transportation from Garfield Park, a lift ticket for the day, equipment rentals, and a beginner lesson at Alpine Valley, plus group hosting by Black People Outside.
Can I just drive myself?
If you choose to drive yourself, you will need to meet us at Alpine Valley and purchase everything directly through the resort, including lift tickets, lessons, and equipment rentals.
Please note: prices will not be the same as the group rate included with this Eventbrite ticket.
What if I only want to participate in part of the day?
You’re welcome to take breaks as needed throughout the day. However, transportation times are fixed and the bus will depart and return at the scheduled times.
Is lunch included?
No. Lunch is not included. Food is available for purchase at the lodge, or you may bring your own lunch.
What should I wear?
Winter clothing is required. Goggles, snow pants, ski suits, and winter jackets are not included. Please refer to the checklist above to ensure you’re fully prepared.
What if I’m nervous or need extra breaks?
That’s completely okay. This is a beginner-friendly, judgment-free experience. Take breaks whenever you need and go at your own pace.
What happens if the weather is bad?
This event will happen rain or shine if not refunds will be issued.
Can I snowboard instead of ski?
Yes, unless otherwise noted. Snowboarders are welcome, and equipment rentals and lessons are available.
No refunds for cancellations.
