Join us for a special piece of St. George history! This Friday morning, we are officially unveiling the David & Wilhelmina Cannon Sego Lily Statue as part of the City Hall Plaza Grand Opening.
In the harsh early days of St. George, Wilhelmina Cannon told her husband, David, she couldn’t stay in such a desolate place unless he showed her "one beautiful thing."
David went searching and found a single Sego Lily blooming on a steep hillside. In his effort to reach it, he fell and hurt (possibly broke) his leg—but he refused to let go. He was found that evening at the bottom of the hill, still clutching the flower for his wife. That sacrifice convinced her to stay and help build our community.
Now, their story returns to the very spot where their home once stood.
