Dance REVOLT is a full day dance conference open to students in grades 8-12 + College and University students.

Time: 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM

Location: 5th floor of the Barrett Centre for Technology Innovation at North Campus.

Cost: $50/student (Includes Table Talk, 3 Workshops, Masterclass, and T-shirt)


An Immersive Educational Experience

A day dedicated to exploring the rich educational opportunities within the world of dance. Open to students in grades 8-12, as well as college and university students, this conference offers a unique blend of dance education, cultural exploration, and creative expression that aligns seamlessly with the Ontario Dance Curriculum.


Educational Highlights:
Choreography, History, and Culture of Breakdance, Dancehall and House
  • “Dance Revolt” dives deep into the heart of two dynamic dance forms, Breakdance, Dancehall and House. These styles are more than just dance; they are living expressions of culture and history.

Conference Outcomes and Benefits:
  • Cultural Awareness: Through workshops and discussions, students will gain a deeper understanding of the cultural roots and social contexts of Hip Hop and Dancehall, aligning with the curriculum’s emphasis on cultural appreciation.

Meet the Faculty!


Bag Of Trix
Breakdance

An international-award-winning breakdancing group. They are active in the national and international competition circuits, and are also a performing and touring group that offers instructional classes and workshops. They work to challenge stereotypes about hip hop culture through their diverse membership, community outreach, and collaborations with fellow dancers.


Baby Boyz
Dancehall

The eight-member, all-male crew based in Brampton was founded in 2003 under the direction of choreographer Trevor Brown, became one of Toronto leading Dancehall Crews that changed the dance scene by injecting authenticity in the Toronto dancehall scene.


Raoul Wilke
House

A multifaceted Dora Award winning artist, Raoul “Jiggyman” Wilke is the co-founder of The Moon Runners dance crew and the CEO of FeedYourSole. As a leader of street dance community within Canada, he has mentored various companies and dance schools over the years, on the importance of the historical context, within these vernacular street forms and the value of themselves.
