About this Event
This is not a traditional dance class or a particular style with a set vocabulary of movements. Rather, it is a self-expression modality and creative process using 5 Elements in East-West fusion as our imagery:
~ Earth (and everything that grows up out of it)
~ Air (and the complete lack thereof - in other words, Space and the Void of Creation)
~ Fire
~ Water
~ Metal
Each Element rules a domain:
~ Body
~ Spirit/Energy
~ Emotion
~ Mind
~ Persona
Each Element also comprises a different aspect of the dance:
~ Physical Foundation
~ Breath, Musicality & Inspiration
~ E-Motion & Passion
~ Choreography vs. Improvisation
~ Intention, Communication, Projection, Protection
Utilizing a vast number of global movement forms from the classical to the folkloric, this style concerns itself with two main questions:
1) From where does the movement originate?
2) How does it get where it’s going? Does it take a linear or circuitous path? Is it a muscular movement or one based on the body’s natural pathways subject to this planet’s laws of physics? Is it soft? Piercing? Explosive? Whimsical?
Once each Element has been explored, we combine them in sequences, combinations and layers to express various aspects of the music. We blur the lines between them, and weave them into The Dance already waiting within us, yearning to be expressed—with others, for an audience, or solely for ourselves. That is the Alchemy we create.

**Isidora Hart is a lifelong dancer, musician, and storyteller, a 30 year martial artist, and an internationally celebrated instructor, performer, and choreographer. She studied theater, dance & history in college, and believes in eternally wearing the White Belt of a beginner. Her 5 Elements style is the ever-growing, ever-evolving culmination of her entire life’s work. More so…her life’s play.
