Trauma Informed Practise in Dance a peer-led workshop for dance artists and practitioners to share and explore our practice in creating safe inclusive workshops. This workshop will acknowledge the range of experiences present in any group and how a trauma-informed approach may help us better engage those we hold space for.
Led by Dance North’s, Creative Producer, Ruth Kent
- Trauma is not what happens to a person, but what happens within them as a result of that trauma. Gabor Mate
* Acknowledging that many of our participants (and ourselves) are carrying trauma
* How this manifests in the body, mind and behaviour
* The powerful role of contemporary dance and somatic movement practise
* What is trauma-informed practise? And how might we build it into our dance practise?
* How do we structure our sessions to incorporate trauma informed practise?
We will reflect collectively on:
What’s been your own experience as a dance artist?
What are we doing that’s useful?
What can we highlight and share with one another?
What might we choose to rethink?
What will we take forward?
