About this Event
Reclaiming Dalit History, Culture and Resistance
Dalit History Month is an annual observance to remember the significance of the history of the Dalits (formerly known as untouchables), caste oppressed descents in South Asia, and the historical figures who have played a role in shaping this reform. It is an event celebrated in April throughout the world by Dalits and caste oppressed individuals. The people celebrate it with organized and widespread discussions, storytelling, history projects, special media publications, and art works. The month is significant for dalit and caste oppressed community as two prominent leaders Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Jyothira Phule were born in this month.
This year, a key highlight will be the presentation of our community caste survey results, alongside the reveal of our nationwide survey that captures the experiences of marginalized Dalit and Adivasi caste oppressed individuals. We’ll explore the findings, discuss their impact, and celebrate the journey we’ve taken together. The event will also feature a forum for open dialogue, offering a unique opportunity for community members and researchers to engage in meaningful conversations and reflect on the insights. This space will foster learning, collaboration, and a deeper collective understanding.
