Daði Freyr has always aimed for his music to be fun, thoughtful, and a little unexpected. His distinctive blend of playful synth-pop, witty lyricism, and infectious melodies has earned him a global following and a reputation as one of the most unique voices in modern pop. But at the heart of it all is something simpler: an artist who speaks his truth, makes whatever feels right in the moment, and lets the song be what it wants to be.
Many first discovered Daði in 2020 with his breakout single "Think About Things", a song inspired by the birth of his daughter. With its heartfelt message and irresistible groove, the track went viral, amassing over 100 million streams and drawing praise from the likes of P!nk, Russell Crowe, and James Corden. Although Eurovision 2020 was cancelled, the song's meteoric rise catapulted Daði from Icelandic favourite to international artist almost overnight.
His 2023 release I Made an Album demonstrated his creative range. Written, recorded, and produced entirely by Daði in his Berlin studio, it combined danceable beats with introspective lyrics, wrapped in his signature DIY spirit and offbeat humour. But for his forthcoming album Too Much, Not Enough, things are different. For the first time in his career, Daði opened his creative process to collaborators, going into sessions with no agenda and letting the music find its own direction. The result is his most mature work yet: more focused, more layered, and more honest.
The album's title captures something central to how Daði moves through life and art. The pull between wanting to do everything and wanting a quiet routine; between tearing down walls and building new ones. Its emotional core is self-acceptance: not performing the version of yourself you want others to see, but being who you actually are. It's a theme that runs through every track, delivered with the blend of sarcasm, warmth, and real feelings. As he puts it: this isn't a concept project, it's a reflection of who he is.
After years based in Berlin, Daði moved back to Iceland with his family in 2025, a homecoming that has brought a new sense of stillness and creative hunger. He describes wanting to spend every minute in the studio right now, just doing whatever. That energy is palpable in the music.
Beyond the studio, Daði's live shows are a world of their own. For his current touring show, which heads to the US and Canada in October 2026, he stripped things back in a different way: performing alone on stage, playing instruments he built himself, with visuals he made entirely by hand. It's the flip side of the collaborative album; intimate, handcrafted, and completely his own. His concerts have always been communal experiences, and that hasn't changed, he's at his best when something unexpected happens and he can connect with the crowd in real time.
With a dedicated global fanbase, a new album that earns its emotional weight, and a relentless curiosity about what comes next, Daði Freyr is an artist who keeps evolving, on his own terms, at his own pace, and always with something worth listening to.
